If you run the SEVERITY procedure (PROC) from SAS/ETS® software in a z/OS operating environment, you might see the following error in your SAS log:
ERROR: [INTERNAL ERROR] Please contact SAS Technical Support to report following error message: Cannot obtain a filename to store function item-store.
This error occurs when the user ID that is executing this code does not have a UNIX file system home directory. A home directory with Write access is a requirement for using PROC SEVERITY in SAS/ETS version 9.3 under z/OS. If you do not have this required home directory, ask your system administrator to add a home directory to your user ID's OMVS segment using your z/OS authentication software, such as RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.
Note: If you run the VALID job that is part of the installation process with a user ID that does not have a home directory, you might get the same error. The VALID job might fail in step TESTET with a return code of 8.
